What is this technique about
Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as “learning through reflection on doing.”
The concept of experiential learning was studied in the 20th century by educational psychologists such as John Dewey, Carl Rogers, and David Kolb. Kolb stated that “learning is the process by which knowledge is created through the transformation of experience“, and proposed a “learning cycle” comprising these four phases:
Through the concrete experience itself, the student participates directly in an authentic situation, at school or outside. Reflective observation leads you to observe and realize what is working or failing and to relate it to previous experiences. In the stage of abstract conceptualization, the student generalizes and transforms his perception into abstract concepts. He asks himself how? what would happen if…? It is your critical thinking that kicks in. In active experimentation, new ideas arise, skills are honed, and a new experience is reached.
