For which purposes it is used

In the educational field, the habit of thinking without rigid patterns will help to work on critical thinking and creativity of students from two fundamental pedagogical aspects:

  • The detection of erroneous preconceptions, for example in the field of engineering, specifically in electricity, can be found with students who have spent a lifetime living with technologies at the user level and who, due to this, have rigid prior erroneous concepts that must be known and corrected.
  • Motivation, this technique allows the introduction to new topics from an active and participatory attitude by the students. It is interesting to mention that De Bono very closely relates lateral thinking with humor, since the process of jumping from one idea to another laterally related is very similar to that used to make a joke or joke funny: finding unexpected relationships and hidden between elements that apparently have no relationship.

Therefore,in our case, it will be taken to the classroom as an introductory activity for motivation and detection of erroneous preconceptions through a class project common to all didactic units, in order to generate commitment and a true “training” of the student. critical thinking.
