Where does it come from

SCAMPER was originally proposed by publicist Alex Faickney Osborn – who also developed the brainstorming technique – in 1953 by defining some of its main questions. It was further developed by Bob Eberle in 1971 in his book “SCAMPER: Games for Imagination Development”, aimed at targeted questions that help solve problems or ignite creativity during brainstorming meetings.

It systematically encourages students to think creatively in order to generate new ideas or improve on existing ones. This strategy is regarded as a learning tool that promotes awareness, drive, fluency, cognitive flexibility, and originality by posing unusual questions. Today, SCAMPER is considered to be one of the most comprehensive and effective ideation techniques.
