Where does it come from
Even though this technique had been taught in journalism since 1917, it was sociologist Harold Lasswell who updated this technique in 1948, later followed by the Two-step Theory by Lazarsfeld and Katz. In more recent times, Solomon & Schrum have adapted the 5W+H model for educational purposes to help teachers select digital educational resources for their classes, a much needed tool in the face of the vast amount of resources published on the internet.
However, the origins of this technique dated back to Antiquity, when the Greek theorist Hermagoras of Temno asked the five essential questions that have served as an instrument of reflection throughout the centuries throughout the periods of history.
