Your experience
I learned about and tried out the World Cafe myself while participating in a training course, and later used it myself in training courses, workshops and activities with young people, students and adults. I chose this method because the young people go through different work steps in small groups, work on them and exchange thoughts. Especially in groups where there are e.g. language barriers and different backgrounds, some students may not be confident to speak in front of the large group and prefer to discuss in small groups. It is also a great technique to try out different methods verbal, non-verbal, creative tools like drawing but also playful approaches at the different stations of the World Café. It is important to have an experienced person at each station of the World Café who can explain the work instructions and support the group if assistance is needed at that station. The main advantages of this technique are that students come into contact and work together who otherwise might not have worked together. The method also promotes trust within the group.
