What is this technique about

Analogous inspiration (alternatively referred to as “analogous research”) is a technique for identifying answers in other settings that may be applicable to your difficulty or inspire an idea that is.

To gain a new perspective on your teaching environment, change your emphasis through parallel inspiration to a new environment.  This helps reframe the problem in order to identify potential solutions.  By examining the current state via novel lenses, breakthrough innovation occurs.  By isolating components of an experience, teaching approach or interaction and then drawing parallels to how others have solved similar problems in the past, challenges can be unlocked.  Rather than an overly analytical approach, going out from behind our computers and into new surroundings helps us tap into our inherent sources of creativity. Creative stimuli and ‘aha’ moments frequently occur in unexpected locations.  Analogous inspiration establishes mechanisms for teams to increase the likelihood of this occurring through open, reflective absorption.
